PRESS RELEASE
Men’s Shed Vernon Makes New Connections

When Men’s Shed Vernon first started meeting early in 2018, word was getting out about their community spirit and focus on encouraging other guys to be vital in retirement. They were visited by a curious Jim Popowich from the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. It turns out that the Men’s Shed filled a sweet spot for Jim. They wanted to give back to other non profit organizations in the community, were making a difference in each other’s lives, and needed some help.

Since those first interactions, Men’s Shed has built several projects for Allan Brooks Nature Centre such as an interactive bright yellow “BEE Box”, and a custom trail side bench for visitors to relax and enjoy the views. Men’s Shed has donated items to the annual auctions, and have turned out to help in the spring cleanup at the nature centre. Both groups have been enjoying the friendships and mutual support. The Men’s Shed guys have discovered a great place to take their grandkids for some quality time with nature. To learn more about these two Vernon community assets:

Monday April 30th saw a turnout of 15 men to the barbecue at Swan Lake. The sun came out just for us. It was good to meet everyone as well as some new members.

Starting out the Vernon British Columbia chapter of Men's Shed saw a good turnout at our first meeting.
If you know anyone that would benefit from the program, let us know (and them). I was surprised by one statistic that said one of the largest age groups for men committing suicide is the 67 year old bracket. As Red Green always says "We're in this together".

Lastly look at the projects page. There's some exciting things coming up.
