Community Garden Digs Men’s Shed Vernon
The Food Action Society in Vernon operates several community garden locations for RDNO. This year, they wanted to incorporate some raised bed gardens to make use of space that wasn’t otherwise suitable for gardening.

The problem was “Who To Call?, and the ever present “We have so little money!’ problem common to all non profit societies.

The Food Action Society reached out to Men’s Shed Vernon for help, and found it! Men’s Shed Vernon places other Not For Profit groups at the top of their priority list. With over forty members, Men’s Shed Vernon guys have a great time working shoulder to shoulder to complete more than 35 projects for local organizations in the last three years.

The Men’s Shed guys sourced some cedar lumber from Mar-Dan Lumber, built a prototype, and created a quote that made the boxes accessible. The first five boxes were delivered to site this week. The Food Action Society will now be able to welcome new families to their community garden. Spring is coming!

Project with another non-profit, Mackie House, fixing up the cottage (facelifting) while social distancing. Thanks to the 12 guys over 6 days and approx 60 total hours the project was a first of its kind for MSV.
Powering washing, scraping, sanding, priming, painting and final touch up. The circa 1908 farm cottage glows again!

Seven Men's Shed guys came out this morning to give back to their community. Cleaning up the Alan Brooks Nature Centre for their seasonal opening July 1st. This is their 20th year anniversary.
We got a lot accomplished.

One project we built for another non profit society was a two sided gazebo to replace their broken gazebo.
The two sided design would give them privacy from a parking lot as well as another building, but still be an open design. It was built in sections and assembled on site. A BIG thank you to Elephant Storage for donating use of their crane truck to put the assembled roof in place.

Roy U built a printer stand by re-purposing a $5 thrift store sewing machine cabinet and adding drawers for supplies. There was a cold air return vent on the floor that couldn't be covered.

Building a new heavy duty stairway to our table saw room, to replace the old death trap stairs. Some of the upkeep we do for the landlord, for giving us space, that we are so thankful for.
The Eagle Bay Camp picnic table project is now complete
and delivered.

Phil and Roy worked on a book case to fill an alcove
