Community Garden Digs Men’s Shed Vernon
The Food Action Society in Vernon operates several community garden locations for RDNO. This year, they wanted to incorporate some raised bed gardens to make use of space that wasn’t otherwise suitable for gardening. The problem was “Who To Call?, and the ever present “We have so little money!’ problem common to all non profit societies. The Food Action Society reached out to Men’s Shed Vernon for help, and found it! Men’s Shed Vernon places other Not For Profit groups at the top of their priority list. With over forty members, Men’s Shed Vernon guys have a great time working shoulder to shoulder to complete more than 35 projects for local organizations in the last three years. The Men’s Shed guys sourced some cedar lumber from Mar-Dan Lumber, built a prototype, and created a quote that made the boxes accessible. The first five boxes were delivered to site this week. The Food Action Society will now be able to welcome new families to their community garden. Spring is coming! Learn More about Food Action Society: https://foodaction.ca |
