Mens Shed Vernon continues our focus on Prostate Cancer awareness Month with a presentation at The Shed on the subject by new member Eric Jackson, who is also the leader of Vernon's Prostate Cancer support group. Eric shared Statistics from the Canadian Cancer Society forecast that over 24,000 men in Canada will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2022 and 4,600 will die from it. The good news is with early detection and treatment the survival rate is approximately 91%.
The presentation also covered risk factors and treatment options. A lively question and answer session followed with engagement of many members sharing experiences and learning the value of establishing a yearly routine of seeing a doctor to get tested for early signs of prostate cancer.
